The Celestial Intelligence Agency Writing Progress
Crowd Funding #
The crowd funding efforts of The Celestial Intelligence Agency: Interstices yielded approximately zero dollars. That’s okay, mostly because the author crowd funded zero dollars for The Rogue Scholar: The Rogue to Victory previous to Interstices. Still, it would have been nice to have raised money specifically for the purpose of writing.
Writing A Book And Living #
It is not an infrequent event that when one finds themselves writing a given thing that they also find their life changes in various ways that concern the work on which they are spending time. A lot of lifestyle changes for the better have been occurring as more chapters are stacked into Interstices. The current chapter number sits at around 24, and there are plenty more to go. The writing then has slowed down while those changes assert themselves. This is partly what the crowdfunding would have assisted in had it been successful–making the changes more fluid and less sluggish. Whereas most writers spend the majority of the time marketing their work, the purpose of the The Rogue Scholar series was never primarily about marketing and financial success, although certainly those are welcome attributes. Rather, the goal was to tell a unique story with some entertainment value in an independent market and to see what the response might be through those channels. The basic finding is that an independent channel is nearly impossible to position in such a way that a work gains traction. People mostly do what the big names tell them to, and whatever their marketing budget pushes into their minds to act upon.
But… #
Sometimes, though, a channel can sit relatively unused and unnoticed for years only to suddenly have a spotlight placed upon it. The job of the author then is to keep on writing and let the chips fall where they may. As mentioned in previous posts, the new readership that is intended is quite small. This makes and marks a huge distinction from the first work, which did not make that assumption. If you happen to be writing from a place of loving to write, then it makes sense that your primary audience will be people who love to read–ideally those people love to read what you wrote–or love you enough as a writer to take the time to read what you wrote at the very least.
Interstices is Ambitious #
Nonetheless, the work as a whole that Interstices undertakes is ambitious and is telling a story in a way hitherto I have seen no other work attempt. Watching the piece take shape is somewhat exciting as an author, as you yourself are uncertain how the elements are going to arrange themselves into place. Maybe in another 24 Chapters, the shape will be complete. The only who knows at this point is The Rogue, and so far, he hasn’t told me anything about how long this work is to be.
